South Korean foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure has continued its post-COVID resurgence in June, with casino sales up 34.3% month-on-month and 65.0% year-on-year to KRW24.5 billion (US$18.9 million).
This follows a 78.9% sequential jump recorded in May as South Korea began easing its COVID-19 border restrictions.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the government recently announced the removal of a mandatory hotel quarantine requirement for unvaccinated international visitors from 8 June 2022 while lifting flight restrictions at Incheon International Airport in order to ensure flights can operate more efficiently.
It has also resumed the issuance of tourist visas for the first time in more than two years as of 1 June.
June’s revenue result included a 36.9% month-on-month increase in table games sales to KRW22.2 billion (US$17.1 million) and a 13.3% increase in machine sales to KRW2.30 billion (US$1.78 million).
Table drop was up 3.3% to KRW143 billion (US$110 million) – suggesting GKL played lucky – with table drop for the first six months of 2022 rising 126.5% year-on-year to KRW675 billion (US$521 million).
Casino revenue for 1H22 is also up 135.1% to KRW94.7 billion (US$73.1 million).
GKL operates three casinos in South Korea – Gangnam COEX and Gangbuk Millenium Seoul Hilton in Seoul, and Seven Luck Casino Busan Lotte.
