South Korean foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) saw significant improvement in April with casino revenues up 48.4% on March to KRW8.83 billion (US$7.8 million).
The better performance followed the reopening of its Seoul casinos in mid-March, with GKL having previously booked casino revenue of just KRW507 million (US$448,000) in February, when only Seven Luck Casino Busan Lotte was operational.
The company had closed all three of its casinos – Gangnam COEX and Gangbuk, Millenium Seoul Hilton in Seoul, and Seven Luck Casino Busan Lotte – in mid-December as the latest wave of COVID-19 spread across the country before reopening Busan in February.
Fellow foreigner-only casino operator Paradise Co earlier this week reported a 34.4% month-on-month decline in casino revenue in April to KRW14.82 billion (US$13.2 million).
