The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will launch its first mega roadshow of the year on Friday, to be held for three consecutive days in Tokyo, Japan, with the participation of all six Macau concessionaires and the travel industry.
Macau received nearly 300,000 Japanese visitors in 2019, which at the time was enough to represent the SAR’s third largest international source market. However, in 2023 Macau received only 75,155 Japanese visitors, dropping to eighth in terms of international source markets.
In order to strengthen exchanges with the Japanese tourism industry and attract more Japanese visitors to Macau, the MGTO has named Tokyo as the city to host its first major roadshow of the year at COREDO Muromachi Terrace. It is also the first Macau roadshow to be held in Japan since Macau’s borders reopened in January 2023.
According to the MGTO, the roadshow venue is in a high-density business district near Tokyo Station, with about 500,000 people working within a one-kilometer radius.
The roadshow incorporates Macau’s “tourism +” elements into a key visual space, where Air Macau and Macau’s six integrated resort operators will run booths to showcase their tourism facilities. The operators will also present special offers on various tourism products to boost the destination appeal.
Before the roadshow, the MGTO arrived in Tokyo on 6 March to hold a meeting with the local tourism industry, during which representatives of the six Macau concessionaires were also present. More than 210 people attended the meeting.
“The international tourism market and aviation capacity have further recovered this year, and the MGTO has launched special promotions covering air tickets, cross-border transportation and hotel accommodation for international visitors,” the MGTO said.
“In addition, the MGTO has launched multi-channel publicity campaigns to attract more short-, medium- and long-haul international travelers to Macau.”
As of January, Macau flights to and from Tokyo and Osaka have resumed to one flight per day respectively.
