The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) said there are now almost 750 illegal gambling websites blocked from Australian users after adding three more to the list this week.
The media regulator revealed it has requested local internet service providers (ISPs) to block offshore sites Vave, Highway Casino and Online Casinos Australia after investigations found them to be operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
This takes the number of illegal gambling and affiliate websites currently blocked to 747 since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, it said. Over 200 illegal services have also pulled out of the Australian market since the ACMA started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017.
The regulator has warned that the use of illegal offshore gambling websites poses a risk to Australians because there is no guarantee they will be able to withdraw deposits of winnings.
