Japan’s Konami Group reported a 5.5% increase in group-wide revenue to JPY226.9 billion (US$1.76 billion) in the nine months to 31 December 2022, with its Gaming and Systems segment showing the greatest gains – up 49.2% year-on-year to JPY27.9 billion (US$217 million).
Gaming and Systems segment profit also grew by 53.8% to JPY3.9 billion (US$30.3 million), although it was the only segment to show greater profit than the prior year as Konami’s group-wide profit fell 37.8% to JPY37.5 billion (US$292 million).
In analyzing its results, Konami noted that the operations of casinos in North America and Australia had returned to pre-COVID-19 levels and were “revitalized” markets.
“Although other markets in some countries and regions are still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the market as a whole is on the road to recovery,” it said.
“Despite the impact of soaring component costs caused by global supply chain disruptions, profitability has improved due to various cost reduction initiatives.”
Konami’s Digital Entertainment or home gaming segment, revenue climbed slightly to JPY156.4 billion (US$1.22 billion) but the Amusement gaming segment saw revenue fall by 23.0% to JPY10.6 billion (US$82.4 million) and Sports by 9.9% to JPY33.7 billion (US$262 million).
