Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment’s South Korean integrated resort, Mohegan INSPIRE, is on track for a late 2023 launch with the company revealing Wednesday that construction progress for Phase 1A has reached 30%.
Set to become the largest integrated resort in Northeast Asia once all four phases are fully complete, Phase 1A covers an area of 461,661 square meters – the equivalent of 64 soccer fields – and will incorporate three 5-star hotels with a combined 1,275 rooms plus a 15,000-seat arena and a foreigner-only casino. Total development cost for the initial phase is KRW1.8 trillion (US$1.3 billion).
According to Wednesday’s construction update, the latest progress has seen most of the underground works and structural works of the main facilities completed.
Mohegan said development is “sailing smoothly” towards its targeted late 2023 launch.
“Mohegan INSPIRE is elegantly designed with motifs derived from the beautiful landscape of Yeongjong Island in Incheon as well as Korean elements,” said Chen Si, Chief Operating Officer of Mohegan INSPIRE.
“Being nestled in the vicinity of Incheon Airport will serve as a great advantage for us in attracting foreign tourists from all over the world including Chinese and Japanese visitors.
“As a landmark leading the revitalized tourism and leisure industry in the post-COVID era, we will become a resort that mesmerizes guests with entertainment facilities and attractions that all generations can enjoy.”
Future phases will include the largest banquet hall and convention center in the metropolitan area with a 4,000-person capacity, a global F&B facility, a premium shopping mall, Splash Bay – a dome-shaped year-round indoor water park – and an outdoor family park.
Mohegan previously confirmed that construction of Mohegan INSPIRE had resumed in February after the company completed financing late last year.
