Newly inaugurated Philippines President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr has denied reports circulating on social media that lawyer George Erwin Garcia will take over from Andrea Domingo as head of gaming regulator PAGCOR.
Garcia was appointed Commissioner for the Commission on Elections under former president Rodrigo Duterte in March.
It has been suggested that Garcia has already been informed by Marcos that he is in line to replace Domingo at PAGCOR but the Presidential Palace of Malacañang denied those rumors via a press statement from Press Secretary Beatrix Rose “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles on Friday night.
“I would like the public to be informed that there is no truth to the statements being made on social media that a certain George Erwin Garcia has been appointed PAGCOR chairman,” she said. “No such appointment has been made.”
Domingo was appointed PAGCOR Chair and CEO by Duterte in May 2016.
