The Macao SAR Government has launched a new health app that will see all patrons entering any of the city’s licensed establishments required to scan in via a venue code.
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said Wednesday that it had written to venue operators – including hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, saunas, massage parlours, health clubs and karaoke lounges – informing them that posting venue codes at their premises was a Health Bureau requirement and that codes must be displayed by 15 January 2022.
Inspections will be conducted regularly to ensure compliance, the MGTO said.
“MGTO will continue to patrol and inspect various licensed establishments under its supervision to ensure the implementation of venue codes and other pandemic prevention measures, reminding them to make corresponding arrangements in scrupulous compliance with pertinent guidelines issued by Health Bureau,” it said.
“In addition, MGTO is publicizing the latest pandemic prevention [measures] among visitors to Macao via different channels, while joining hands with residents in supporting pandemic prevention in Macao, with the hope for understanding and cooperation of residents and visitors.”
The new system, designed to provide a more accurate map of where potentially positive cases have been, replaces the previous system by which visitors would scan their own health declaration form upon entry to licensed venues.
