Macau’s hotel occupancy rate reached 62.0% in May, slightly improved from an occupancy rate of 58.5% in April but 50.2 percentage points higher than May 2020.
May’s occupancy rate continued an upward trend for Macau, which had seen the rate increase from 38.5% in February and 55.3% in March. It also reflects a 9.0% month-on-month increase in visitor arrivals in May to 866,063.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), 3-star and 4-star hotels performed particularly well with occupancy of 70.7% and 67.5% respectively.
There were a total of 760,000 guest check-ins in May of which 659,000 came from mainland China. Another 68,000 were locals.
For the first five months of 2021 combined, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 51.3%, up 21.2 percentage points compared with the same period in 2020.
