Macau concessionaire Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. has launched a range of activities to celebrate 2021 World Environment Day, including switching off all exterior and non-essential interior lights at its Macau hotels and resorts for one hour on Monday 7 June.
All SJM properties, including Lisboa Hotel and Grand Lisboa, turned off their decorative lights, outdoor LED screens and non-essential interior lights for one hour to raise awareness about global warming and to promote the importance of reducing energy consumption. Hotel room guests were also invited to join the light-off event, SJM said, while many employees turned off non-essential lights and electronic devices at home.
SJM will continue to support 2021 World Environment Day by inviting its frontline and office employees to wear less formal attire during summer, with the company aiming to reduce energy consumption from air conditioners by setting office temperatures no lower than 25°C. Staff will also be encouraged to turn off non-essential lights and electronic devices during lunch hours to reduce power consumption.
“In line with the Macau SAR Government’s goal to transform Macau into a low-carbon city, SJM remains committed toward maintaining environmentally sustainable operations and achieving measurable green objectives amongst its employees through regular education programmes,” SJM said.
