While all of the focus this week has been on Crown Resorts, Sydney’s existing casino operator is preparing to double capacity as New South Wales further eases COVID-19 restrictions.
With the state reaching a 24th consecutive day with no community transmission, the government will relax a series of restrictions on hospitality venues from this Friday including reverting to a one person per two square meter rule – doubling capacity from the one person per four square meter rule that had been in place since December.
Star Entertainment Group responded Wednesday by confirming it will now increase combined capacity on its gaming floors at The Star Sydney from 5,000 to 10,000 as of Friday, while the wearing of face masks will also no longer be mandatory.
The Star Sydney had previously reverted to a similar rule late last year before an outbreak of the virus in Sydney’s northern beaches area saw restrictions tightened again over the Christmas and New Year’s period.
“The Star remains committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its team members and guests,” the company said.
