The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s casino operators fell 52.0% year-on-year in the first six months of 2020, according to statistics from the Financial Intelligence Office.
The total number of STRs from games of fortune in 1H20 was 464, down from 966, continuing a city-wide trend that saw a 31.2% decline in STRs across all industries.
Financial institutions and insurance companies reported 332 suspicious transactions compared with 381 in the prior year period, while suspicious transactions from other institutions increased from 29 to 151.
Games of Fortune also comprised a lower percentage of all STRs in Macau for the first half of 2020 at 49.0%, compared with 70.2% in the same period last year.
