Melco Resorts & Entertainment has confirmed it was forced to lay-off 23 dealers for providing fraudulent medical certificates in order to apply for sick leave.
The company issued a statement late Friday following claims by the New Macau Gaming Staff Rights Association that over 100 dealers were dismissed for using medical certificates issued in mainland China which the Association said was against company regulations.
Melco quickly rejected those claims, clarifying that only 23 dealers had been let go and that the issue at hand was the provision of fraudulent medical documents. Inside Asian Gaming was also informed that all employees were made aware upon employment that such actions were punishable by immediate termination.
“The Company confirms the recent termination for cause of 23 dealers due to the presentation of fraudulent medical certificates,” Melco said in its statement.
“All Company employees are well informed that this action would lead to immediate termination of employment. Integrity is one of Melco’s core values.”
