Yokohama City has announced its IR Direction draft, a document that will become a reference point for the city’s implementation policy, based on the national government’s IR Development Act. Public comment has been open since Friday 6 with feedback to be accepted for one month.
Once the public comment period is over, Yokohama city will spend April and May revising the draft. The results of the public feedback and the final direction of a Yokohama IR will be announced in June.
The planned schedule includes selection of an IR operator during 2020 after which an area facility plan will be formulated. In the first half of 2021, the application will be made to the central government upon a resolution of the Yokohama City Council. If the area is then certified, the plan is to conduct a Request for Proposal (RFP) with a view to open an IR in the latter half of the 2020s.
