Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced that it will begin building a hotel at Okushiga Kogen in Nagano prefecture.
The Asian integrated resort operator is investing in Okushiga Kogen resort, a popular ski facility, through a new hospitality investment fund it announced in October which aims to support the revitalization of the local Japanese economy through the development and operation of “premium” hospitality, leisure and entertainment facilities.
The Nagano project will see Melco operate a 280-room hotel as well as commercial facilities in the area, with an exact opening date yet to be confirmed.
While Melco had previously revealed plans to develop a five-star ski resort in Japan as it continues to ramp up its Yokohama IR bid, the company had not until now revealed where such a development would be.
The resort will be one of two initial projects under its JPY27 billion (US$250 million) hospitality investment fund, with the other being a hot spring resort in Hakone, south of Yokohama.
