POWER SCORE: 1,450
POSITION LAST YEAR: 23
CLAIMS TO FAME
• More than 30 years’ industry experience including 10 years with Wynn Resorts
• Boasts a strong mass market pedigree
Having been appointed President in late 2016 with a mandate to boost Wynn Palace’s mass market presence, Ian Coughlan has certainly been kicking goals this year with mass revenue showing strong improvement.
The company’s 2Q19 revenue results showed 0.7% growth in casino revenue at Wynn Palace to US$528.5 million, pushed into the positive by a 4.0% increase in mass market table drop to US$1.27 billion. Aided by a strong win rate, mass table games win grew to US$296.9 million – comprising more than half of the property’s gaming revenue for the quarter.
The continuing strong performance at Wynn Palace has more than made amends for disruption at Wynn’s original peninsula property during its ongoing US$100 million makeover and suggests a greater slice of Macau market share – currently sitting at around 15.1% – could be on the way.
Long respected at Wynn, having first joined Wynn Macau in 2007 as Director of Hotel Operations before becoming President of Wynn Resorts (Macau) SA later that year, Coughlan’s next assignment will be to oversee the development of Wynn Palace’s Phase 1 expansion – a US$2 billion development aimed at increasing exposure in the premium mass segment. Due to break ground in 2021, the expansion will include the addition of a new 650-room hotel tower and a Crystal Pavilion featuring art, entertainment and F&B facilities.
