CHAIRMAN
Delta Corp

POWER SCORE: 590
POSITION LAST YEAR: 46

CLAIMS TO FAME
• On verge of owning small casinos in the only three Indian states to allow them
• Perfectly positioned should Indian casino industry be given the green light

Originally a real estate firm, Delta Corp made its first foray into casino gaming in 2008 with the launch of casino ship Deltin Jakq and has since grown to become the country’s dominant player, running three offshore casinos in Goa plus Deltin Suites Casino Hotel at Nerul and Casino Deltin Denzong in Sikkim.

But with growth limited by the capacity and access restraints that come with operating from a boat, Delta Corp finds itself anxiously awaiting long-discussed legislation that would see offshore casinos shifted to a new land-based gaming district. While progress on that front continues moving at snail’s pace, Union Gaming’s Grant Govertsen expects approval sooner rather than later, describing the prospect of land-based casinos in India as “transformational.” Likewise, Govertsen names Delta Corp shares as one of the best “Buy” opportunities in gaming due to the potential future value of a land-based Goa IR development.

Guided by the steady hand of Chairman Jaydev Mody, the company also owns India’s biggest online poker site, Adda52.com, which it purchased in 2016, and runs casino operations inside the Marriot Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.
