Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited has sponsored a friendly football game, organized by the Macau Sports Bureau, between England’s Southampton Football Club and Guangzhou R&F Football Club.
Local community members were invited to meet and train with players from Southampton ahead of the match to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau SAR. Forty members from Macau Special Olympics (MSO), including those from the MSO soccer team and their families, were invited by Melco to learn soccer skills from the English Premier League players. 18 Melco volunteers were on-site to assist training and facilitate the event.
“As a company dedicated to youth development and community outreach through partnerships with local NGOs and charities, we are pleased to support the Macao SAR Government-organized friendly game between Southampton Football Club and the Guangzhou R&F Football Club,” said Melco’s Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to the Chairman and CEO, Akiko Takahashi.
“We hope this collaboration with MSO enabling its local members to train with players from the English Premier League was an invaluable experience to expand participants’ horizons, to help them develop greater self-confidence and skill, and establish an understanding that opportunities one may never have dreamt of are, in fact, achievable.”
