Macau’s labor force continues to be stretched to the limits with the unemployment rate for the three months from February to April 2019 down by 0.2 percentage points compared with the same period in 2018 to just 1.7%.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), there were just 6,600 unemployed people in Macau of which 10.3% are new labor market entrants seeking their first job.
The total number of people employed actually declined by 1,800 for the period to 385,300 and the number of employed residents by 1,900 to 280,100.
There was a slight decline in the number of people employed in “restaurants and similar activities” by 600 to 24,300, while those working in gaming and junkets increased by 1,200 to 85,200.
