The occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels grew by 2.1 percentage points in the three months to 31 March 2019 to 93.7%, with average room rates also on the rise.
The increase follows a strong finish to the quarter as occupancy rates climbed to 92.7% in March – a 2.8% increase over the same month in 2018.
For the whole of 1Q19, average occupancy in 3-star hotels soared by nine percentage points to 96.2% while 5-star hotels were also up slightly to 93.9%. Occupancy of 4-star hotels fell 4.2 percentage points to 87.3%.
While average room rates in March fell 1.3% to MOP$1,320.90, rates were up slightly for the quarter to MOP$1,377.50. Room rates of Macau’s 5-star hotels declined 0.7% for the quarter to MOP$1,663.20.
