MGM China Executive Director Pansy Ho has touted the company’s “innovative and creative concepts to come” as MGM Macau celebrated its 10th anniversary with the launch of its latest innovative art exhibition, Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park on Tuesday.
Named one of the “Top 10 Art Exhibitions of 2015” by Designboom and having previously shown in Europe, the United States and various cities across Asia, Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park has landed in Macau ahead of the opening of MGM Cotai on 29 January 2018. It is the 23rd exhibition to be held at MGM Macau since its launch in 2007.
“MGM is in constant pursuit of innovative collaborators, bringing in original art and entertainment experiences to locals and tourists and to showcase the multifaceted brilliance of Macau,” Ho said. “TeamLab Future Park provides a glimpse of the innovative and creative concepts to come as MGM continues to expand and develop, bringing even more diversified offerings to Macau.”
In an interview in the current December 2017 edition of Inside Asian Gaming in which she highlights the opportunities available to Macau to promote itself via both art and eSports, Ho said that staying one step ahead and introducing innovative concepts was vital to Macau’s future as a tourism hotspot.
“When we started to mention art a few years back, people were really looking bewildered and saying, ‘What for?’ The what for was whether a sustainable industry could be derived from this initiative,” she said in the interview. “Now at this juncture people believe that in fact art is heading in the right direction and now is the time we need to capture that opportunity.
“If you look at Hong Kong, in the space of just five years they have developed the world’s largest art fair. How did this happen? It happened because they only needed one shot at it because they have always been well prepared. It’s what we call the back-end – readiness. Hong Kong has been ready in terms of its tax regime, logistics, even having the hospitality and MICE capabilities so that when the right moment comes, you bring all of these capabilities together. This is what we need to do for Macau.”
Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park at MGM Art Space is the city’s first co-creative digital exhibition, allowing guests to stroll through the Future Park discovering colorful interactive installations in an always-evolving environment.
