China’s lottery sales in the first seven months of this year totalled RMB 363.1 billion, up 12.5% year-on-year primarily due to the recent Euro 2024 football championships.

According to data released by China’s Ministry of Finance, welfare lottery organization sales reached RMB 122.6 billion between January and July, an increase of 13.9% year-on-year, while the sports lottery achieved sales of RMB 240.5 billion, an increase of 11.8% year-on-year.

On a monthly basis, lottery ticket sales in July totalled RMB 54.7 billion, an increase of 11.8% year-on-year.

The July tally included welfare lottery sales of RMB 17.6 billion, down 1.3% due to a relatively high base in the same period last year and a decline in sales of instant lotteries.

Sales of sports lotteries amounted to RMB37.0 billion, up 19.3% due to short-term rapid growth in sales of speculative lotteries driven by Euro 2024.
