Macau’s visitor arrivals topped 200,000 for a second consecutive day on Tuesday as the Lunar New Year Golden Week continued to exceed expectations, according to information from the Public Security Police Force.

Just 24 hours after setting a new post-pandemic high of Day 4 of 217,451 visitor arrivals on Monday, the fourth day of the Golden Week holiday saw another 201,023 arrivals, taking the four-day tally 703,347.

At the halfway mark of the eight-day holiday, total visitation is already closing in on 960,000 arrivals predicted for the entire period by the Macao Government Tourism Office (although visitation is expected to tail off in the coming days).

The average 175,836 daily visitor arrivals thus far represents a 173% increase over the same period last year, aided by an influx of visitors from mainland China – 524,627 to be exact. This in itself is some 248% higher than during the first four days of last year’s CNY Golden Week.

Hong Kong arrivals have totaled 135,925 at an average of 33,981 per day, up 44.4% year-on-year.

By mode of arrival, the total four-day tally includes 250,571 via the Border Gate, 174,408 via the HZMB checkpoint and 105,923 via the Hengqin Port. More than 92,500 have arrived by ferry and 39,498 by air.
