The Macau government has announced that, from Monday, people will no longer be required to wear masks outdoors, while those in charge of indoor premises can decide whether they want to maintain a mask mandate.
However, those entering medical institutions, elderly and rehabilitation homes, as well as drivers and passengers of public transport (not including taxis), will still be required to wear masks for the time being.
When indoors, the government explained it is up to the person in charge of the indoor premises to decide whether masks should be worn based on factors such as the prevailing epidemic situation, air circulation and the number of people. If people are required to wear masks, they should be notified in an appropriate manner.
When there is a cluster of infections in large gatherings, childcare centers and non-tertiary institutions, or when there is a peak of infection in Macau, the organizer or responsible entity should require people entering the premises to wear masks.
“The outbreak has remained stable in Macau over the past two months and the mask measures have been adjusted in light of the experience of prevention and control around the world,” the government said.
