Macau’s integrated resorts have earned a combined 61 Five-Star awards in the 2023 Forbes Travel Guide, cementing the jurisdiction’s reputation as a leading luxury travel destination following the recent easing of border restrictions.

In yet another positive reinforcement of the SAR’s tourism bona fides, the six concessionaires all earned a minimum of seven Five-Star awards in 2023, headed by Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Wynn Resorts who each earned 15 Five-Star awards for the hotels, spas and restaurants at their Macau resorts.

Melco also won two Five-Star awards for the hotel and spa at Nüwa at City of Dreams Manila.

“We thank Forbes Travel Guide sincerely for the honors,” said Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho. “The accolade highlights Melco’s continued dedication to providing guests with exceptional hospitality across our Hotels, Restaurants and Spas. While pandemic-related challenges have indeed been felt over the past few years, we are ready to welcome back the steady influx of tourists to our global resort properties by further enhancing Melco’s signature culture of service excellence with dedication and commitment.”

On achieving an identical number of Macau awards, Wynn Macau Ltd COO Frederic Luvisutto said, “This continued recognition of our commitment to excellence reflects the effort and dedication of our people, who are the foundation of our success.

“We are proud to have maintained an unprecedented position with the multiple awards we have received, and this recognition continues to inspire all of us to provide the unparalleled guest experience that we are known for globally.”

SJM Resorts joins the party in 2023 with nine Five-Star awards, including five at recently opened Cotai integrated resort Grand Lisboa Palace.

“It is a noteworthy accomplishment for the new Grand Lisboa Palace to receive all Five-Star ratings from Forbes Travel Guide in its first rating year,” said SJM’s Managing Director, Daisy Ho.

“We are also overjoyed that Grand Lisboa has been awarded four consecutive years of quadruple Forbes Five-Star recognition. These accolades serve as a testament to our team members’ ongoing efforts to elevate guests’ experience.”

Galaxy Macau notched eight Five-Star awards across Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, The Ritz-Carlton Macau, Banyan Tree Spa Macau, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Macau and Lai Heen, while MGM China and Sands China notched seven Five-Star awards each.

MGM President and COO Hubert Wang said, “We are honored to once again bring home seven Five-Star Forbes Awards. These attest our long-standing excellence of operation and reinforce our devotion to offering our valuable guests with diversified, top-notch service and facilities.”

The 61 Five-Star awards earned by Macau’s IRs is eight more than the 53 earned in 2022, while the 22 hotels awarded citywide gives Macau the most Forbes Five-Star hotels of any city in the world, edging ahead of London’s 21.
