The number of visitors arriving in Macau continued to trend north in April, rising 5.3% over March and by more than 7,000% compared with April 2020 to 794,819.
According to figures published by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), April visitation comprised 450,579 overnight and 344,240 same-day visitors with average length of stay at 1.6 days.
Given that Macau remain closed to most international arrivals, mainland China was the dominant source of visitors in April with 730,934, of which 300,467 entered using the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS). Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 383,623, of which 47.3% came from Zhuhai, DSEC said. There were 56,760 visitors from Hong Kong and just 7,091 from Taiwan.
Most visitors arrived by land including 576,211 via the Gongbei Border Gate, with 62,288 arrivals by air and 23,574 by sea.
For the first four months of 2021 combined, Macau visitor arrivals is down 21.6% year-on-year to 2,533,247 with an average length of stay of 1.7 days.
