The government of Guangdong Province has further eased restrictions on its Macau border, with mainland Chinese residents returning to Guangdong now allowed access to the entire province.
Guangdong removed the mandatory 14-day quarantine on visitors returning from Macau on 15 July, but limited the activity areas to nine cities, namely Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing City.
Exactly two weeks later, the activity area has now been expanded to cover the entire province, suggesting governments in Macau and mainland China are continuing to look at ways to increase visitor flow into the SAR. Conditions for entry remain unchanged, however, with all visitors requiring a negative COVID-19 test within the previous seven days and to present a “green” health code upon arrival.
Although border restrictions between Macau and Guangdong Province have been eased for two weeks now, visitor numbers have so far failed to show significant improvement with statistics from Macau’s Public Security Police Force showing just 3,600 visitors arrived in Macau last Sunday.
The Macau SAR averaged 108,000 daily visitors in 2019.
