Manila’s market leader in the gaming space, Solaire Resort & Casino has been a significant victim of the Philippines’ COVID-19 woes in 2020, where community quarantine measures shuttered the business and its Entertainment City peers for the best part of six months.
Parent company Bloomberry Resorts reported in August a 95% decline in GGR for the three months to 30 June 2020 to Php686.6 million (US$14.1 million), of which VIP contributed Php121.7 million (US$2.5 million), mass table games Php303.7 million (US$6.2 million) and electronic gaming machines Php261.1 million (US$5.3 million).
To their credit, Arasi and his team haven’t sat idly by to wait for better times, with the company’s charitable arm assisting with the construction of three Manila quarantine facilities including most recently a 600-bed facility for patients recovering from the virus and needing to isolate.
Then again, it should come as no surprise to see Arasi at the forefront of transitioning to this “new normal.” Since joining Bloomberry as President and COO of Solaire in late 2013, he has been instrumental in positioning the pioneering Philippines resort as market leader in the most dynamic and fastest growing region in Asia. The company also remains on track to open Solaire North in Quezon City by the end of 2022.
