Macau IR operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment is set to donate HK$20 million (US$2.6 million) to purchase medical supplies and support local communities in Wuhan and Hubei.
Melco revealed on Wednesday that it is working with the government to donate the funds amid ongoing concerns over the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan and has already claimed 132 lives. The donation will be used to purchase supplies including face masks and hand sanitizers, as well as to support the local community as needed, Melco said.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Wuhan and Hubei, and all those who are impacted by the new strain of the Coronavirus,” said Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho.
“We hope this donation helps accelerate the preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus. Melco fully supports the Government’s initiatives to contribute to the health and wellbeing of those affected in the community.”
Melco announced earlier this week that it is cancelling all non-essential business travel as well as multiple events on the company’s Macau properties, including popular resident show The House of Dancing Water.
