Macau’s Judiciary Police says it held 110 men for questioning as part of a four-day anti-crime operation in and around Cotai over the weekend.
The operation, under the coordination of the Unitary Police Service and alongside the Public Security Police Force, conducted blitzes on a number of Cotai resorts in collaboration with Macau casino operators in the area.
Police confirmed to media on Monday that they were focused primarily on gangs offering illicit money exchange services both in and outside of Cotai properties.
The operation included the high-profile detention of 39 men from “two large-scale casinos” late on Friday which was caught on video by bystanders and widely shared on social media over the weekend. Videos showed a brawl breaking out alongside the Venetian Macao between a group of around 10 men before police ceremoniously marched a number of suspects through the crowd.
In a statement, the Judiciary Police said it would continue to carry out relevant anti-crime operations at different locations in the coming days.
