Macau’s tourism boom continued in April with more than 2.9 million visitors arriving in the gaming hub, up 8.0% year-on-year and 8.3% month-on-month, according to data released by the local Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Wednesday.
The number of mainland visitors grew 16.5% year-on-year to two million for the month. Tourists coming under the Individual Visit Scheme from Mainland rose 16.9% to over 960,000. As usual, Guangdong province tourists led the trend. On the other hand, South Korean and Hong Kong visitors saw their numbers decreasing.
Most of the arrivals came via the Border Gate with an increase of 14.4% year-on-year, while those arriving by sea decreased 5.6% year-on-year. Most notable was a 25.9% year-on-year increase in arrivals through the airport.
For the first four months of the year, Macau has registered over 11 million visitors – up 8.4% year-on-year.
