The current operating consortium – including Chinatrust Commercial Bank, ADATA Technology and Greek giant Interlot (in its first Asian outing) – has turned the fortunes of the lottery around, and CEO Ted Lin has been at the centre of that revival. In addition to expanding the overall range of products and improving services, Lin’s team has creatively expanded the range of sports betting options to include sports unavailable in regulated markets elsewhere in Asia. The lottery has also performed steadily and solidly during the pandemic, employing online and mobile sales channels that helped achieve a record NT$46.6 billion (US$1.7 billion) in sales in 2021, boosted by the delayed Tokyo Olympics. The lottery is set to easily beat that record in 2022, with the FIFA World Cup looming in November.
