Under the watch of Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges – now in his 13th year as CEO – The HKJC didn’t miss a beat, completing two full racing seasons and, having experienced only a slight downturn in the 2019/20 season, achieving all-time record turnover of HK$279.70 billion (US$36.0 billion) in 2020/21, up 27.9% year-on-year. The record result included a 12.3% increase in racing turnover to HK$136.1 billion (US$17.5 billion) and a 51.4% rise in football wagering to HK$140.2 billion (US$18.0 billion), slightly offset by a decline in the Mark Six lottery due to its suspension between February and mid-September 2020 for public health reasons.
