With the ramp up of Zaha Hadid-designed Morpheus, addition of new VIP gaming areas, optimizing betting limits and an emphasis on customer relationships, CoD is “firing on all cylinders,” Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said on the second quarter earnings call. CoD’s adjusted EBITDA for the quarter rose 34% to US$251 million, accounting for 60% of Melco’s total. Given new duties as Chief Operating Officer for Macau in September, Sisk must continue the upward trend at CoD while also monitoring Studio City, where he spent 16 months as President; Altira, the boutique luxury property on Taipa, overlooking the Macau peninsula; and Mocha slot clubs. Studio City promises particular challenges. The New York Stock Exchange listed property with 36% hedge fund ownership faces a July 2021 deadline for completion of its US$1.4 billion second phase, with an additional 900 guest rooms and new gaming space. Melco is in talks to extend the deadline. There’s the lingering issue of balancing ownership considerations – buying out the minority shareholder would solve that – and creating synergy with Melco’s other products.
