inside asian gaming October 2016 38 iGaming Blue Pages A specialIllegalGamblingAdvisory Board tasked with investigating the growing illegal market across the United States has called for the nation’s lawmakers to repeal the federal ban on sports betting. Established by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and comprising a number of former high ranking law enforcement officials and state legal representatives, the panel has called for a complete overhaul of the current system which it says has not only created a US$150 billion illegal sports betting market but also made it almost impossible to monitor. At present only four states – Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana – are permitted to provide any kind of sports betting product to their citizens with only Nevada and Delaware actually doing so. iGaming in Depth The Illegal Gambling Advisory Board has instead recommended legalizing both online and land-based sports betting nation-wide in order to help “shut down illegal gambling operations, provide law enforcement with critical tools to monitor and investigate sports betting and protect both consumers and the integrity of games.” In an After-Action Report released in the lead-up to last month’s Global Gaming Exhibition (G2E) in Las Vegas, the Board announced the following conclusions from its 12-month investigation which culminated in a Law Enforcement Summit inWashington DC in June. 1.
