Maybach: the legend The Maybach automobiles were acknowledged as icons of the “roaring twen- ties”, and a repository of impeccable craftsmanship and engineering. They were among the biggest, most handsome and impressive cars that have ever taken to the road. Between 1921 and 1941, Maybach automobiles were the last word in avant- garde automotive engineering and aesthetics. Only 1,800 of these majestic lim- ousines were produced in this time and the beauty of each one is in its individu- ality of the craftsmanship and customization. No two Maybachs were ever the same. And more than 60 years on, 152 of the original Maybachs still exist around the world. Retaining its original charm, Maybach made a revival in 2002 after taking a 60-year break. Two new products have recently been launched – The Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62. The most significant difference between them is length: the former is 5.73 meters long and the latter an exceptional 6.17 meters long. The harmonious interplay of form, colour and materials makes the Maybach the epitome of exclusive luxury and endows it with an unmistakable sophistication. The Maybach is a perfect balance of the classic and the avant- garde. And its lines create a timeless appeal, outside and in. The highest quality materials – among them more than 100 exquisitely craft- ed and hand-fitted items of exotic wood trim – embellish the spacious interior, whose design was guided by a single objective: the greatest possible comfort and well-being for all the passengers and an entirely new definition of “first class”. Accordingly the Maybach 62 takes automotive luxury into a new dimension: the interior has an overall length of 2.68 meters and the distance between the front and rear seat is 1.57 meters. Individuality: approximately 2.2 million permutations Everything needed for entertainment, communication and sheer pleasure during a journey in the Maybach is included as standard: from a DVD player to a TV receiver, from a refrigerated compartment to a cordless telephone with two handsets. But following the tradition of the legendary Maybach cars of days gone by, there is virtually limitless scope for individuality. Maybach owners have more than two million ways of tailoring their car to their personal taste. These include further, exclusive Mercedes innova- tions for even greater comfort and travelling enjoyment – such as the proxim- ity control system DISTRONIC, the access and locking system KEYLESS-GO, a unique panoramic roof with electrotransparent glass, and active seat ventila- tion. The Maybach is made for the individual. It is created in a manufacturing facility where craftsmanship plays a major part and exclusively small numbers are produced to order, ensuring each one of these luxury cars, like its owner, is thoroughly unique. Performance: peak values for output and torque The Maybach’s newly developed Type 12 engine reflects the long years of experi- ence and expertise of DaimlerChrysler in the development, design and production of twelve-cylinder power units. With a displacement of 5.5 litres, and with the help of bi-turbo charging, the Maybach engine develops an output of 550 hp, with a maximum torque of 900 Newton meters. Outstanding comfort offered by the suspension, the almost complete ab- sence of engine and wind noise, and its surprising agility make it a unique driving experience. The interplay between the engine, with a scarcely detectable auto- matic transmission, the precise steering and the response of the brakes put the Maybach in a new dimension for driver and passengers alike. Safety: maximising driver and passenger protection In addition to a highly sophisticated body structure, the exemplary safety tech- nology of this supreme luxury car includes a total of ten airbags – two adaptive airbags with two-stage gas generators for the front occupants, four sidebags and two large windowbags on each side of the interior. The three-point seat belts with automatic comfort-fit, high performance belt tensioners and belt force limiters are integrated into the seats and offer full protective action in any position. These advanced safety features ensure the new Maybach easily surpasses the stringent safety tests prescribed by the European and American NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). The Maybach’s high level of handling safety is assisted by the innovative Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC™) braking system, which features two central control units, two high-pressure reservoirs and two hydraulic units. This makes a total of eight braking circuits, while internally ventilated front disc brakes provide extremely reliable deceleration.
