The total number of visitors arriving in Macau over the course of the seven days of Golden Week has come in at 1,213,487, representing a 26.6% increase over the 2018 Lunar New Year holiday.
Visitor numbers showed strong year-on-year growth through the entire week, registering increases of between 21.7% on the first day up to 31.6% on Day 2. Visitor numbers peaked at 226,874 on Thursday 7 February.
The checkpoint of the recently opened Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge saw almost 200,000 people cross into Macau, while the border gate was the busiest entry point with 601,785 visitors across the seven days.
Visitation from mainland China grew 25.6% in Golden Week to 899,290 with 553,053 arriving via the border gate.
Macau experienced a 5% decline in GGR in January – its first year-on-year fall for any given month since July 2016 – but analysts are predicting growth of between 5% and 9% in February, buoyed by the timing of Chinese New Year.
