The cost of hotel accommodation in Macau fell by 6.46% year-on-year in the three months to 31 December 2018, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
However, prices increased significantly compared with 3Q18, rising 24.80% sequentially due to higher room rates during the National Day holidays, the Macao Grand Prix and Christmas holidays.
Macau’s Tourist Price Index (TPI) across all sectors for the fourth quarter of 2018 decreased by 1.90% year-on-year to 139.81, due primarily to accommodation costs and the falling prices of women’s clothing, the DSEC said. TPI reflects the price change of goods and services purchased by visitors
The price indices of Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco and of Restaurant Services grew by 4.11% and 1.63% respectively year-on-year.
