The Macau SAR Government has confirmed that a news article being spread on a number of websites this week claiming travel restrictions to the United States for Macau locals had been dropped was fake.
The story said that US President Donald Trump had signed an executive order allowing Macau nationals to travel to the US without a visa.
But late Wednesday the Macau government released a statement, which read, “In regard to a rumor on the internet that holders of the Macao Special Administrative Region Passport and holders of the Macao Special Administrative Region Travel Permit are granted visa-free access to the United States, the Identification Services Bureau has been confirmed by the Consulate General of the United States in Hong Kong that the relevant news is not genuine.
“The immigration policy of the United States to the Macao Special Administrative Region remains unchanged. Currently, holders of the Macao Special Administrative Region Passport and holders of the Macao Special Administrative Region Travel Permit are still required to apply for relevant visas to enter the United States.”
