Passenger traffic at Macau International Airport rose 9.7% in December to cap a year in which the airport processed a total of 5 million passengers, an increase year on year of almost 12%.
Figures publicized by investment analysts Union Gaming Research Macau show the December count at 453,987 and total aircraft movements at 4,482, a 15.9% increase over December 2012. Aircraft movements were up 16.6% in 2013, a year that saw one new airline introducing service and four additional routes put in place for a total of 21 airlines with service to 35 destinations.
UGRM notes that the airport, which handles about 6% of the total visitation to Macau, has recorded 27 months of continuous passenger traffic growth since October 2011. Arrivals are mainly from Southeast Asia (39%), mainland China (34%) and Taiwan (27%).
