Three men have been detained by police after allegedly lobbing a grenade and firing shots into a casino in Cambodia’s Kandal province.
The incident took place shortly after midnight last Thursday at a casino named “Thmar Pich”, or “Diamond Rock”, in the Leuk Daek district of Kandal province and is said to be linked to a dispute between the accused and the casino’s Vietnamese owner over “business affairs”, according to The Khmer Times.
A Cambodian security guard was reportedly seriously injured in the attack and rushed to hospital.
The three men have been identified as a 52-year-old Cambodian businessman from Prey Veng province and two Vietnamese nationals aged 44 and 38, the latter believed to be casino patrons. Another three Vietnamese nationals remain on the run.
It is alleged all six drive to the venue in the early hours of Thursday morning last week and opened fire, while one of the men threw the grenade that injured the security guard.
The arrested trio have been charged with “attempted murder and unauthorised possession of a weapon” and face prison terms of up to 10 years each if convicted.
