Macau welcomed 96,671 visitor arrivals on Monday, unofficially the start of China’s National Day Golden Week holidays. The official Golden Week period runs from 1 to 7 October.
The figure from the Public Security Police Force represents a solid start for the SAR’s tourism operators with daily figures expected to grow significantly as the week progresses.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), stated recently that she expects an average of 100,000 visitors per day during the week, although this is largely viewed as a conservative measure.
During last year’s National Day Golden Week, which lasted for eight days from 29 September to 6 October, Macau recorded a total of 931,000 visitor arrivals, with a daily average of about 116,000 visitors.
Representatives of Macau’s hotel sector said last week that they expect occupancy rates and visitor arrivals to hit new post-pandemic highs during Golden Week.
