Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DJIC) has named Paulo Jorge Moreira Castelo Basaloco as the new head of its Gaming Inspection Department.
Basaloco recently testified in the trial of former Suncity Group chairman Alvin Chau and others, claiming he “did not find any suspicious behavior in Suncity [VIP rooms],” during his time as an inspector.
“Unless it was reported, I have not seen any junket promoting [proxy] betting in Macau,” he added.
Basaloco joined the DICJ in 1988 and has been working there for more than 30 years. He was previously appointed to lead the 1st Inspection Division in September 2021.
On Wednesday, the DJIC announced that Basaloco has been appointed as the head the entire Gaming Inspection Department, putting him in control of the 1st Inspection Division, 2nd Inspection Division and Gaming Equipment Inspection Division.
