PRESIDENT AND CEO
Genting Singapore

CHAIRMAN AND CEO
Resorts World Sentosa

POWER SCORE: 761
POSITION LAST YEAR: 25

CLAIMS TO FAME

  • Won Genting’s make or break bid for a Singapore gaming license
  • Oversees Resorts World Sentosa, Genting Group’s most profitable property

TAN HEE TECK sits on the Power 50 list this year boasting not just his April promotion to CEO of Genting Singapore, but also a bona fide coup: recently hiring casino operations guru Andrew MacDonald to turbo-boost the casino floor and marketing team after the Australian veteran left Las Vegas Sands and Marina Bay Sands mid-2021.

After years of recovering from over-exposure to direct VIP and mounting receivables, the Singaporean’s jewel in the Genting crown is now poised to close the gap on Marina Bay Sands, which has also seen MacDonald’s top former colleague George Tanasijevich leave for a Middle East real estate gig.

Tan, like Tanasijevich, is a Singapore gaming old-timer and responsible for Genting’s securing its vaunted Singapore casino license.

Now, he must lead from the front once again and shepherd Resorts World Sentosa through an uncertain period of pandemic gambling, while delivering on commitments to the government to expand non-gaming facilities that amount to billions of dollars in upgrades and new investment.

With Singapore beginning to outflank Hong Kong as the primary hub for international business in Asia, Tan has the chance to make the most of Genting’s presence in one of the most resilient gaming jurisdictions in the world.
