India’s leading gaming operator Delta Corp says it will put one of its offshore casinos in Goa back into operation after a court issued a stay against the government’s environmental body.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had ordered Delta to halt the operations of the Deltin Caravela, also known as Kings Casino, for failing to obtain coastal regulation zone clearance to operate on Goa’s Mandovi Rover. The NGT also stated last week that operations could not resume until such clearance was gained by Delta Corp subsidiary High Street Cruises and Entertainment Private Ltd.
But in a filing, Delta Corp said the Supreme Court of India has now issued a stay order against the NGT’s order and as such the operations of the Deltin Caravela will be resumed.
According to a report by The Times of India, the vessel – one of four offshore casinos operated by Delta Corp – contributed around 5% of the company’s revenues in the financial year ended 31 March 2022.
Delta Corp revealed last year it is building a new Rs150 crore (US$19.3 million) offshore casino to replace the Deltin Caravela on the Mandovi River by mid-2022.
