Suspicious Transaction Reports from Macau casinos rise 9.5% in 2021

The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s casino operators increased 9.5% year-on-year to 1,330 in 2021, including 305 in Q4, according to information from the Financial Intelligence Office.

STRs from casino, or Games of Fortune, operators comprised 54.6% of all STRs for the year, with 793 reports from Financial institutions and Insurance Companies and 312 from other institutions.

In total there were 2,435 STRs issued across all sectors in 2021 compared with 2,224 in 2020.

The Financial Intelligence Office had previously reported a total of 1,937 STRs for the first nine months of 2021 with 1,025 from Games of Fortune operators, 665 from Financial Institutions and Insurance Companies and 247 from other institutions.
