A series of five promotional roadshows held in mainland China in 2021 with the goal of boosting tourism to Macau attracted 1.9 million visitors and 550 million online views, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
The final figures follow completion of “Macao Week in Chongqing”, held in Jiefangbei Square in Yuzhong District of Chongqing from 2 to 6 December, which attracted almost 400,000 spectators and over 70 million live stream views.
The roadshows, which have also visited Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing in Jiangsu and Sichuan in Chengdu this year, have seen 44 booths set up at each venue promoting Macau’s “rich dimensions of tourism, trade and commerce, culture and creativity, sports, entertainment and more,” the MGTO said.
The booths have included contributions from all six Macau gaming concessionaires, and others centered on gastronomy, festivals and events, sporting events and “A glimpse into the Macao Grand Prix Museum”.
A tourist information desk has offered Macau travel tips including information on COVID-19 testing requirements for visitors to Macau.
“Through the signature series of ‘Macao Weeks’, the SAR Government joined hands with industry partners to expand the source of visitors and attract more Mainland visitors to Macau for tourism and economic revival,” the MGTO said.
Macau has welcomed just over 6 million visitors through the first 10 months of 2021, up 32.2% on the same period last year but lagging well behind the total of 39 million who entered in 2019.
