Macau’s hotel occupancy rate fell to 38.4% in August, down 25.3 percentage points compared with July due to temporarily tightened border controls between the SAR and mainland China.
However, the August figure was still 25.1 percentage points higher year-on-year, with the number of guests checking in to hotels and guesthouses rising 136.8% year-on-year to 435,000. The number of mainland guests grew 573.9% to 300,000 while local guests increased by 11.7% to 109,000.
In the first eight months of 2021, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 50.5%, up by 27.0 percentage points year-on-year. It includes a total of 4,509,000 guests, up 108.1% year-on-year, with their average length of stay rising by 0.1 nights to 1.8 nights.
There were still no inbound package tour visitors due to ongoing bans on package tours from mainland China due to COVID-19.
