Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, in partnership with the Social Welfare Bureau and the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming of the University of Macau, has launched the “Responsible Gambling Promotion 2021” – aimed at increasing public awareness of gambling disorders.
For the second year in a row, this year’s theme is “Lost Control, Lose Family”, pointing to the importance of family education in preventing such disorders. Local Macau social service organizations will spend the coming months focusing on the promotion of responsible gambling by way of online financial education videos, competitions, family financial management workshops, lectures and more.
Macau’s concessionaires will also hold activities to promote the responsible gambling messaging to employees, residents and tourists.
In addition to a number of training and community activities organized by the gaming industry and social service organizations, the DICJ, Social Welfare Bureau and the University of Macau are promoting the “Lost Control, Lose Family” theme through various media including street advertising, TV, radio, bus promotional videos and social media channels from September through December.
In order to ensure those suffering from a gambling disorder are receiving the best treatment, the Responsible Gambling Working Group has implemented the “Responsible Gambling Indicators” program which aims to assess the level of satisfaction with the different actions and facilities implemented by social service sector and its entities related to responsible gambling, as well as providing optimization proposals. The targets of the first phase are the prevention and treatment centers of gambling disorders, with 12 units having been assessed as satisfactory after their evaluation.
The centers will be awarded the qualification of “Responsible Gaming Implementation Model Unit” at the 2021 Responsible Gaming Promotion 2021 Closing Ceremony, to be held in mid-December.
