Suncity Group CEO and Director Alvin Chau has become the latest to donate to flood relief efforts in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, pledging MOP$3 million (US$375,000) of his own money to the disaster.
His contribution comes after Macau’s six concessionaires each donated MOP$10 million last week, with the region having suffered significant loss of life and property damage as a result of what has been described as unprecedented rain.
Chau’s MOP$3 million donation, in coordination with the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, is to support frontline flood relief, the purchase of material aid and post-disaster reconstruction, Suncity said.
“In 2017, the aid of the People’s Liberation Army Macao Garrison to the Macau government greatly helped minimize the damage caused by super typhoon Hato to the city,” Chau said.
“This is testimony to the blood ties and love between our compatriots. Recently, Henan Province was affected by severe rainfall, causing loss of people’s lives and property damage. I can fully relate to the victims’ feelings.
“Through pledging this donation to Henan Province, I hope to support local relief work and help all victims resume their normal lives. I strongly believe that, under the leadership of the Chinese central government as well as the helping hands from the society, our compatriots in Henan Province will definitely overcome this flood crisis and recover as soon as possible.”
